Mircea Scinteianu, our Senior Engineering Manager, is a man of many talents. He's involved in just about every aspect of our Engineering projects and has plenty to reveal about his job and responsibilities.

We asked Mircea a few questions about his work, and he was kind enough to share some peculiar insights with us. We hope you'll enjoy reading about it as much as we enjoyed talking to Mircea!

1.    What is the team doing under your supervision?

The Designing Team (Fiber Network Designing Team) is a group of highly skilled engineers with a rich experience in the Telecom industry. We are coming to satisfy our clients' needs in mapping and developing their communication networks.

•    We offer technical assistance in drawing production work as analysis, fiber optic network design, topology layout, fiber splice plans, cable duct, and routing, and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, taking charge of different types of fiber optic cables and put to practice company, client and project design, and drafting standards.

•    We must identify and rectify any issues related to permits, zoning, and other matters that may affect the project, considering surrounding environments before building or finalizing network plans.

•    The Fiber Optics Designer should help with the assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques. The professional needs to look into drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and fiber optic cable plants, and refine rough sketches. They must look into initial draft designs and keep track of the ongoing projects.

•    We do reports, evaluations, drawings, and calculations. Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.

•    The designer must be an expert in design principles, industry standards, and installation practices. They will be responsible for splicing, termination, and testing methodology.

•    The Fiber Optics Designer should have hands-on experience designing and delivering telecommunication products. They need good knowledge of aerial, underground, and intra-building solutions. 

 

2.    What do your daily responsibilities look like?

I have three teams under my supervision: the Production Team, an Engineering team (which will do a pole loading for one of the company's clients), and the Fiber Network Designing Team.

My day starts with a short meeting with the team leaders. We look over the results of the previous day. Discuss the problems met during the execution of the tasks, how we can solve them, and how we could improve our activity and deliverables. Setting up the day's goals aligns them to the company's goals and analyzing risks, which could affect the deadlines or our internal and external client's expectations.

After, I continue with meetings with internal and external stakeholders (top management representatives, projects managers, and managers of other internal departments and client's representatives) to find out the needs of my teams, adjust our course, and help each other to do the job in the best way.

Periodically, I return to my teams to see how it is going and if there is anything I could do to encourage them and keep them motivated.

3.    What is the role of your team in the Telecom industry?

The quality of communication services provided to final customers depends on many factors. Every telecom service provider must have a reliable network built in the shortest time and at the lowest price for every telecom service provider. It's impossible to build anything of high quality without a well-planned and drawn project that has to consider much more than I mentioned above.

Imagine you have a map that should drive you to find a way from one place to another and will be clearer how much depends on the quality of that map. Any idea for the implementation of which the participation of many people and companies is necessary depends enormously on how all of them will understand the concept. The higher the quality of our delivery, the faster the network will be built. 

4.    What excites you most about the company's future?

Starting from the first step of my career in the telecom industry, I felt very lucky to meet many exceptional people. I had extraordinary co-workers and mates whenever I was promoted or changed my activity. The same is here at Utilities One. The difference is the concentration of professionals Utilities One collected under its roof. I am pleased to see the highest level of positive attitude, involvement, and dedication to the performed activity daily. What excites me most is the conglomerate of highly motivated, highly skilled professionals for whom nothing is impossible in the telecom industry. I am proud to be part of this great team!
